Sharing Knowledge Globally, in Any Language

Boehringer Ingelheim Case Study

Boehringer Ingelheim is a global group of companies embracing many cultures and diverse societies. The goal of the research-driven pharmaceutical company is to improving the health and quality of life of humans and animals. The focus in doing so is on diseases for which no satisfactory treatment option exists to date. The company therefore concentrates on developing innovative therapies that can extend patients’ lives. In animal health, Boehringer Ingelheim stands for advanced prevention.

Family-owned since it was established in 1885, Boehringer Ingelheim is one of the pharmaceutical industry’s top 20 companies. Some 50,000 employees create value through innovation daily for the three business areas human pharmaceuticals, animal health and biopharmaceuticals. In 2018, Boehringer Ingelheim achieved net sales of around 17.5 billion euros.

Boehringer Ingelheim's Challenge

Given the multinational environment of the group, making employees collaborate more effectively and securely between operations is a big challenge. In particular, collaborators needed to translate local documents into the official corporate
language (English) and so the “translation tool project” was launched. Information sharing often requires real-time translation of documents such as emails, letters, contracts and presentations coming from various departments.
By implementing SYSTRAN Global Server teams can now share and capitalize all knowledge globally within the group.

To ensure information security, Boehringer Ingelheim installed a SYSTRAN machine translation software solution on its infrastructure and deployed it via their global intranet. They were also looking for a scalable and customized solution that offered a high level of availability from a partner with a proven track record of supporting large organizations. With a view to ensuring the project success, SYSTRAN proposed a centralized on-premise translation server, along with a complete range of high-performance tools for effective management of
translation projects.
